Emily VanCamp on Living in New York, Working with Samuel L. Jackson, and the “Intimidating” Set of Captain America
By: Bennett Marcus

Emily VanCamp has been working in New York this summer. “I’m shooting a couple of movies, actually,” she said at Clinique’s Dramatically Different party on Tuesday. “I’m wrapping up Captain America on Monday. I’m also, at the same time, shooting a little indie film here in New York, called The Girl in the Book, which I’m really passionate about and super-excited about, directed by Marya Cohn,” she told VF Daily. “And then back to Revenge as soon as I’m done. It’s been a little bit of a crazy summer.”

(The indie movie VanCamp is referencing must really be a passion project—it even has a Kickstarter page.)

She insists that Samuel L. Jackson, who is known to have his intimidating moments, was very nice and funny on the Captain America set. But she said being in a blockbuster was a bit overwhelming. “It was a very intimidating situation,” she said. “So many incredible actors. It was nice that they were all really sweet to me.”

Clinique threw the party to celebrate a reformulation of the 45-year-old moisturizer, and an entire wall at Rockefeller Center’s 620 loft and garden was covered with bottles of the product. Partygoers could have their portrait taken by a fashion photographer or drawn by an illustrator.

Archie Panjabi, Petra Nemcova, Katharine McPhee, and Estelle were among the guests roaming the space, which has spectacular Manhattan views and a lovely outdoor garden.

Shorty after VanCamp arrived, her Revenge co-star and real-life beau, Josh Bowman, slipped quietly into the party. He was dressed casually, in jeans, and declined to pose for photos.

The two hung out all evening, talking and laughing with friends. VanCamp mixed graciously with partygoers, while Bowman stuck mainly with friends.

When leaving the party, attendees received a gift bag containing a bottle of the moisturizing lotion. VanCamp and Bowman left, and when they emerged from the elevator in the building’s lobby, the jasmine-growing Bowman marched right over to the male security guard manning the front desk, handed him the bag, and said, “Here, this is for your lady.”

Emily’s new independent film The Girl in the Book is currently filming in New York and the producers of the movie are looking for help in funding the movie’s post-production. They’ve set up a Kickstarter page to ask fans or anyone interested to donate to the project. You can watch a short video below that sheds some more light on the movie and their Kickstarter:

Besides the video, they’ve also posted some more in-depth info about the premise of the film through short character bios of the two main characters, which you can read below:

ALICE is a 28 year-old assistant book editor living in a small apartment on the upper east side. She is funny and smart, but emotionally self-destructive, seeking self-esteem in men’s desire. She has finally met a guy worth keeping, but is in danger of screwing it up, as always.

By day, Alice works for a notable book publisher. Like anyone climbing the ranks, she’s trying to make her mark despite her frustrations with her boss. By night, in between her various dates, Alice tries to write. She has an incredibly compelling story to tell – her story. But that story was written fifteen years ago…by someone else.

MILAN is a 35 year-old aspiring writer on the eve of releasing his first novel. Represented by Alice’s father, a prominent book agent, Milan becomes close to 14 year-old Alice, and during that time writes the novel that makes him a world renowned author.

Today, 15 years later, Milan and Alice’s paths cross once again, forcing the two to confront events that have long gone unaddressed. Alice’s work life and personal demons converge when her boss tasks her with promoting the one book she would most like to forget exists.

Emily wrote a special article for the Huffington Post Green blog for World Environment Day. You can read her entire article below.

Elephants, Bikes and Gardens: Why I Care About All Three – Especially Today
By: Emily VanCamp

I have always loved animals. Growing up in a rural area near Ontario, Canada, I learned to appreciate and respect the wildlife around me. My sisters and I would play outside for hours, just exploring and witnessing the wonders of the natural world.

Today, on this World Environment Day, a day that celebrates all the courageous and positive environmental actions taking place around the world, I stop to reflect on what being an environmentalist means to me.

Now that I’m older, I know that the world’s most iconic and beloved species and beautiful, awe-inspiring places are in jeopardy.

And I am using that knowledge and understanding to fight to see change on a more global level.

I recently became involved with World Wildlife Fund — an organization that fights for what I love and believe in and one that I’ve been excited to work with for a while now. Earlier this year I helped launch the “Hands Off My Parts” initiative — an effort tied to WWF’s Stop Wildlife Crime campaign to raise awareness and mobilize support to end the illegal trade of wildlife.

ABC released official details today about the DVD box set for the complete second season of ‘Revenge.’ Though their press release didn’t go into much detail about the DVD set, it did include a release date of August 20th as well as a look at the official cover art, which you can see to the left. Just click the thumbnail to get a bigger look. They have yet to announce exactly what special features will be available, but I think it’s safe to assume the set will include the typical deleted scenes and behind the scenes featurettes. If you want, you can currently pre-order the DVD on Amazon.
