“Everwood” Cast Reunion Highlights

Warning: Undefined variable $post_id in /home/vancamp/public_html/wp-content/themes/secretsmilewp02/index.php on line 24

Last month, the Everwood cast reunited for a 15th anniversary panel at the TCAs. It’s hard to believe it’s already been 15 years since the show first aired on the WB (if you aren’t aware, you can stream the entire series on CW Seed). In attendance were Emily along with fellow co-stars Gregory Smith, Treat Williams, Debra Mooney, John Beasley, Tom Amandes, Vivien Cardone, Justin Baldoni, Stephanie Niznik, plus creator Greg Berlanit and executive producer Rina Mimoun.

…Here are 10 takeaways from the reunion, featuring creator Greg Berlanti, executive producer Rina Mimoun and the late WB series’ cast (minus Chris Pratt, Sarah Drew, Scott Wolf and Merrilyn Gann):

* “This is an emotional day for me,” a visibly choked-up Berlanti said, kicking off a panel that would find several of the stars getting teary-eyed. Tom Amandes, who played Dr. Harold Abbott, also got verklempt while praising the show’s writing. The emotion intensified as Vivien Cardone (Delia Brown) recalled how she couldn’t see her father much when she moved to Utah to film the series, so Treat Williams (Dr. Andy Brown) — who was also away from his family — made her a deal: He would be her temporary dad if she would be his temporary daughter. The two actors then embraced after dabbing away tears. “Of all the things I’ve done in the 44 years I’ve been doing this, [Everwood is] right at the top,” Williams said.

* Where would the Everwood characters be now? Debra Mooney imagines Edna Harper is “in an RV going around the world and having a great time. She could stop anywhere and be a nurse.” Amandes noted that Rose and Herald were set to adopt, prompting Mimoun to point out that their child would now be the same age as Ephram was when the show started. “The reboot is right there, you guys!” she exclaimed.

* So will the series ever get the revival treatment, especially in light of its recent success on CW Seed? “No one’s asked, but I think we all would love to work together again,” Berlanti responded, to which Williams added: “In a New York minute.” Berlanti admitted that he hasn’t even thought about how the storylines could pick back up in a potential continuation. “Most of our plan has been asking people to have a digital space for people to watch the show,” he explained. “That’s been most of our campaign for how to keep the show alive.”

* An alternate ending for the Season 4 finale featured Ephram getting a call from his ex Madison as Amy waited for him. Mimoun wasn’t sure how they would have gotten out of that romantic pickle, but “that would have been fun to figure out.”

* The cast and producers could definitely see a certain co-star’s future success coming. “I told Chris Pratt he was going to be a star,” John Beasley (Irv Harper) recalled. “He had a lot of the qualities that would make him a star. He was a good-looking white boy. [Laughs] He’s such a nice guy. And he could eat!” The cast then proceeded to recount stories of just how much Pratt would consume. “We would call ‘Cut,’ and he would still be eating,” Amandes shared.

* Berlanti singled out Season 1’s “Episode 20,” in which Kate Mara guest-starred as a teen seeking an abortion. “In the original pitch of Everwood, Dr. Brown was supposed to be an abortionist,” Berlani said. Needless to say, that didn’t go over so well, “but the network promised us we could deal with that subject matter [at a later point].” After “intense conversations,” “Episode 20” came to be, although there was “still some question” as to whether or not they would air it.

* “The biggest fight [over story] was [when] we were ending Season 2 with a cliffhanger [involving] Ephram’s baby,” Mimoun revealed. “I remember Greg said the whole thing, and I said, ‘You must be out of your mind. You’re leaving me to go do this. They’re going to hate him, and they’re going to hate me. And they are going to say I did it.’”

* Jane the Virgin‘s Justin Baldoni, who joined Everwood late in its run as Reid Bardem, said the series “set the tone for me to see what a family was like on set. I came in on the fourth season, and they embraced me like I was on the show the whole time. Sarah Drew gave me her car for a month. At one point, I literally lived with Greg [Smith], and we were roommates in life and on the show.”

* “I do think the success of something like This Is Us will encourage more of this kind of [multi-generational family] storytelling,” Berlanti said. And he has no hard feelings about the NBC drama’s plethora of Emmy nominations: “As a viewer and someone that gets to make TV, I’m really happy for This Is Us. If I have any issue, it’s that the [Television] Academy should recognize shows on The CW. I’d like to see the hard work that people do there get recognized more.”

* If Berlanti had to pitch Everwood today, he would still take it to The CW. Following the panel, Berlanti told reporters that CW President Mark Pedowitz is responsible for the show finding a home on CW Seed. “[He] called me one day and said, ‘I want to get the show for [CW] Seed. I feel like our fanbase will like it,’” Berlanti said.

Also, FOX announced today that the show will be held for mid-season. This means that it won’t premiere in the Fall. Instead, it will likely show up sometime around January of 2018. No word yet on an official release date. I will update everyone once I know more.

Emily’s had quite an amazing week so far. First, “The Resident” got picked up, then her and Josh got engaged, and now today is her 31st birthday ♥

I normally never talk about Emily’s personal life but since she shared this on Instagram, I find that it’s okay to share since she did it first. Emily got engaged to her longtime love, Josh Bowman, whom she met on Revenge. For those who watched the show, he played the character of Daniel Grayson.

The picture she shared on Instagram yesterday can be seen to your left. The caption only contains a simple heart emoji but the image speaks for itself with the ring you see on her finger.

Congratulations to the happy couple! I’m so thrilled for them both and that they found love in each other. Wishing them a lifetime of happiness together.

In other news, today is May 12th which means it’s Emily’s birthday.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY, EMILY!

“The Resident” officially picked up by FOX!

Great news, everyone! The FOX upfronts aren’t even here yet and it was announced today that Emily’s new show, “The Resident”, has been picked up to series by FOX! No news yet on where it will be in FOX’s schedule but we’ll get news of that next week. As I mentioned, this show will mark Emily’s return to network television. I’m super excited to see her on this show and I hope you guys are as well!

Fox will spin its own medical yarn in the fall with The Resident, a new series starring The Good Wife alum Matt Czuchry.

Ordered to series Wednesday in anticipation of its fall upfront presentation Monday in New York City, The Resident is from Antoine Fuqua’s production company and is about a tough, brilliant senior resident who “guides an idealistic young doctor through his first day, pulling back the curtain on what really happens, both good and bad, in modern-day medicine.”

The new drama will also star Bruce Greenwood, Emily VanCamp, Manish Dayal, and Shaunette Wilson.

Pilot season also means network presentation season. The FOX Upfronts will be held on May 15th at 4 PM at the Beacon Theater in New York City. Here we will see the network unveil their upcoming season lineup. This is the event where we will find out if Emily’s “The Resident” will be picked up for the season by FOX to be part of their Fall schedule. I do need to make note that this event is not open to the public and is strictly for press and talent. If I find a live blog about it, I will link it. I’ll be sure to bring you any news that comes out of the event when I hear first word. Here’s hoping that the show is picked up so that we can see a network television return from Emily!

Emily to star in FOX’s “The Resident” Pilot

Warning: Undefined variable $post_id in /home/vancamp/public_html/wp-content/themes/secretsmilewp02/index.php on line 24

MORE EXCITING NEWS! If all goes well, Emily will be making her return to broadcast television with “The Resident”, a medical drama produced by 20th Century Fox Televison. We haven’t seen her on television since “Revenge ended almost two years (!) ago. We will know whether or not the show has been picked up at the FOX Upfronts, which will happen in May. Then we will also see where in the 2017-2018 lineup the show would be scheduled, as well. Fingers crossed that FOX loves the pilot of the show they ordered and pick it up for a full season! Right now, the pilot was the only episode ordered by FOX. So it’s not a guaranteed green light on production of the show just yet. I will keep you guys updated on the status of this as I learn more.

The story follows an idealistic young doctor (Matt Czuchry) as he begins his first day under the supervision of a tough, brilliant senior resident who pulls the curtain back on all of the good and evil in modern day medicine. Lives may be saved or lost, but expectations will always be shattered.

VanCamp will play Nicolette aka Nic, described as the attractive nurse who is Conrad’s (Czuchry) on-again-off-again romantic fling.

    New layout + “Boundaries” Clip

About time, right? The last layout was up for awhile and super outdated. It was time for a fresh makeover and a simpler, cleaner look. I still have to tweak some things but for now, it’s pretty much done. I’ll also be giving the gallery a new look and catch up on updating images probably sometime over the weekend.

The site also celebrated 14 years online back on February 11th, 2017. Crazy to think about! Thanks for the continued support! ♥

In Emily news, not much going on as she has not signed onto any new projects. But I stumbled upon a clip from Boundaries that was posted to YouTube back in November. You can watch it below.
