Emily VanCamp on Living in New York, Working with Samuel L. Jackson, and the “Intimidating” Set of Captain America
By: Bennett Marcus

Emily VanCamp has been working in New York this summer. “I’m shooting a couple of movies, actually,” she said at Clinique’s Dramatically Different party on Tuesday. “I’m wrapping up Captain America on Monday. I’m also, at the same time, shooting a little indie film here in New York, called The Girl in the Book, which I’m really passionate about and super-excited about, directed by Marya Cohn,” she told VF Daily. “And then back to Revenge as soon as I’m done. It’s been a little bit of a crazy summer.”

(The indie movie VanCamp is referencing must really be a passion project—it even has a Kickstarter page.)

She insists that Samuel L. Jackson, who is known to have his intimidating moments, was very nice and funny on the Captain America set. But she said being in a blockbuster was a bit overwhelming. “It was a very intimidating situation,” she said. “So many incredible actors. It was nice that they were all really sweet to me.”

Clinique threw the party to celebrate a reformulation of the 45-year-old moisturizer, and an entire wall at Rockefeller Center’s 620 loft and garden was covered with bottles of the product. Partygoers could have their portrait taken by a fashion photographer or drawn by an illustrator.

Archie Panjabi, Petra Nemcova, Katharine McPhee, and Estelle were among the guests roaming the space, which has spectacular Manhattan views and a lovely outdoor garden.

Shorty after VanCamp arrived, her Revenge co-star and real-life beau, Josh Bowman, slipped quietly into the party. He was dressed casually, in jeans, and declined to pose for photos.

The two hung out all evening, talking and laughing with friends. VanCamp mixed graciously with partygoers, while Bowman stuck mainly with friends.

When leaving the party, attendees received a gift bag containing a bottle of the moisturizing lotion. VanCamp and Bowman left, and when they emerged from the elevator in the building’s lobby, the jasmine-growing Bowman marched right over to the male security guard manning the front desk, handed him the bag, and said, “Here, this is for your lady.”
